Mission Statement
To breed and promote the classic old-line Foundation Appaloosa as a blood-breed, independent of cross-breeding, pure in pedigree, form and function, with blood ties directly to the founding (F) horses.
Our program strives to preserve the bloodlines of Red Eagle, Toby, Patchy, Sundance, and Chief of Fourmile. We further desire to include the bloodlines of the dedicated breeders before us such as Simcoe, Briley, Scripter, Forry, Thompson, Ulrich, Fisher, and Pratt. We consider the Appaloosa to be endangered at it’s current state, and are passionate in our determination to preserve this legendary breed. We will endeavor to the best of our ability to breed up-close Foundation stock to other up-close Foundation stock, therefore insuring in some capacity that the original Appaloosa does not enter into complete extinction.
We have chosen to exclude to the best of our ability, certain Appaloosas who have produced what we consider to be the modern Quarter Horse phenotype, the result of uncontrolled cross-breeding of Appaloosas to the Quarter Horse, as well as other breeds accepted for crossbreeding by the ApHC. It is our belief that crossbred horses, in spite of their popularity within the ApHC are detrimental to purity and have a strong influence on the phenotype of their progeny. The phenotype of the Modern Quarter Horse is considered undesirable. |
